I have to agree with you, I didn't realise that it was Eday until midnight after a small article was published on the BBC and I run an energy focused blog. I notice many other relevant blogs failed to pick up on the event until it was too late. The lack of publicity surrounding the event is what lead to its demise, not to mention the poor weather conditions, the follow up, gloating BBC News Online article "No impact from Energy Saving Day" certainly doesn't reflect what the organisers had ambitiously tried to achieve, and such it's quite disheartening as it's not likely we will be having an Eday for while anyway, well one where we can prove something to, government and ourselves.
