Reduce your CO2 tip of the day (1): do at work what you do at home
A new feature for this blog - let’s see how far we can go before ideas dry out! Ideas in no particular order, and comments and new ideas welcome.
Reduce your CO2 is a site aimed primarily at individuals, based on the philosophy that if we all take action to reduce our own emissions rather than waiting around for governments to tell us what to do, then things will move very quickly. What’s more, many of the things we can do will save us money!
Most of the actions we can take are things we would think of doing in our own time, but we musn’t forget that many of us spend just as much time at work as we do at home. So today’s message is this: THINK CO2 REDUCTION AT WORK AS WELL AS AT HOME. Switch off your computer when you go home, and even if you go out for meetings. Unplug your phone charger (and your pda charger, and all other necessary gadgets) when not using them. Switch off the lights in the bathrooms. And if (like me rather too often) you are the last to leave, turn off the photocopier, the printers, and anything else that is consuming unnecessary power.
The financial reward may be less evident (although theoretically a lower electricity bill contributes to higher profits), but you will be helping reduce co2 in an area that many forget about.
